"Master Peregrine Porcupine's visit to the milliner was not the unqualified triumph he had hoped for."
Master Peregrine Porcupine wanted a hat. The milliner provided one. The problem, which neither party fully anticipated, is that Master Peregrine comes with his own headwear – approximately two hundred quills that have strong opinions about personal space.
The hat is there. It is simply not entirely visible.
He is making the best of it. One rather respects that.
They belong to Animabilia – a cast of ten sets of African animals reimagined as members of a deliciously fading Edwardian society. Think Downton Abbey, but on the savannah. A world of croquet lawns and dwindling dinner invitations, of notorious libertines and inveterate gossips, of fancy dress balls and expeditions nobody asked to hear about. Each print is a digital collage combining authentic Victorian and Edwardian fashion engravings with vintage natural history illustrations of African wildlife – two worlds that have absolutely no business being together, and yet are completely convincing.
If you've been looking for wall art that is genuinely original, quietly witty, and actually worth looking at closely – this is it.
